The story is told from one man's point of view. His keycard opens Room 742, a stranger is already inside, and he stays. Then the stranger's wife knocks.
She is not surprised to see him. She picked him herself. And she does not want him gone: she wants to watch.
That reveal flips the whole setup. What looked like a mistake turns out to be a plan, and the intrigue is in who has been steering the evening all along. A hotel corridor and one room make for a tight, contained setting.
